Naana Tennachie Yankey’s Coccolily label is hot, hot, hot….

(All photos courtesy of Coccolily)

Ghana Rising has a new label crush and its Coccolily by Naana Tennachie Yankey. Sexy and soft all at the same time, gown-up chic with a twist of whimsy -the Coccolily label was a fashion insider secret until now! A celebrity favourite, -I’m crazy about this label and can’t wait to (hopefully) shoot some of Coccolily’s A/W 2011 collection for a big project I’m working on -I’ll keep you in the loop folks. For more information or purchase the above -visit: http://www.coccolily.com/

More Info:
Designer Naana Tennachie Yankey was born in Ghana. Her formative years were spent in the United Kingdom where she attended boarding school and later ventured off to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
While living in the US, Naana made a dramatic switch from business to fashion, to cultivate her creative spirit. Her longing to be part of the fashion world came to fruition when she apprenticed with Marc Jacobs in New York.

Naana later moved to Montreal to study Fashion Design at Academy of Arts and Design in Montreal, Quebec and then worked under Eve Gravel, before starting to sow the seeds of her own line, Coccolily.

Through her diverse travels and colourful heritage, Naana`s approach to fashion is sensual, edgy and bold. Coccolily is infused by European flare, since Naana loves to work with original haute-couture fabrics from mainly Italian mills.

Naana believes that a woman deserves to be draped in luxury; to have her body enhanced with special clothes. Coccolily is a daring yet playful line of couture lounge and eveningwear that brings out the edge and sexuality in every woman. (Credit: http://www.coccolily.com/)

Fashion: YN's Closet

Apparently actress Yvonne Nelson has opened her own fashion boutique in Dansoman, Accra called YN's Closet -and is also the lady behind YN hair. Does anyone have any information about said businesses. I‘ve tried numerous times to contact said actress without success but it would be nice to celebrate her businesses -if said claims are true. Have you visited YN's Closet? If so get in touch. Thanks xx

Joe Osae-Addo’s Home in Accra -probably the most beautiful home in Africa…

Designed without air conditioning, the house was raised three feet off the ground to take advantage of the cooling under floor breezes. Sliding slatted wood screens throughout the home allow cross ventilation from outdoors and the fans overhead.

I stumbled across architect Joe Osae-Addo’s serene interiors via Escapade blog and fell in love. I wonder -all those Accra based hotels that claim to be 4 or 5 star, why don’t they consult architects like Joe Osae-Addo’s and David Adjaye -or interior designers like myself, because this is how successful African interiors look like. The colours, textures, furniture and quality of Mr Osae-Addo’s home speaks for itself! Be inspired -dare to do it properly or call me.

Title: At Home in Accra
When Ghanaian-born architect Joe Osae-Addo decided to move back home to Ghana from Los Angeles, he set out to design a space inspired by the striking modern style of his favourite icons - Finland’s Alvar Aalto, Australia’s Glenn Murcutt, and L.A.’s Ray Kappe and apply it in a way that was relevant and suitable in an African context. Through long distance correspondence, he and his fiancee Sarah Asafu-Adjaye designed a space that would stand out among Ghana's typical concrete block houses. The house has a balcony wrapping around it, inspired by both colonial English bungalows and the courtyard plans of rural Ghanaian houses. “There are no internal corridors,” Osae-Addo says, “so rooms extend from one wall to the opposite wall, allowing for free flow of light and air." www.escapade blog
