Health of The Nation Part Two: President John Dramani Mahama meets Bill Gates in Accra, Ghana…

President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday received the co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr. Bill Gates in his office. He commended the former Chief Executive of Microsoft for his Foundation’s support to Ghana's public healthcare system, especially in the areas of HIV/AIDS.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has also been supportive with Ghana’s school feeding programme, the fight against malaria and maternal healthcare.

Bill Gates is on a private visit to Ghana to access the impact of various health-related interventions being implemented by the Government of Ghana. According to him, he intends to recommend the successful Ghanaian strategies elsewhere. While commending the successes chalked by Ghana in various fields including immunization, Mr. Gates said he also intends to learn about the challenges and obstacles that face the country.

President Mahama observed that the Foundation has contributed to boost the nutritional needs of children and an increase in school enrollment, helping Ghana attain the universal enrollment level.

On malaria, President Mahama said government is using new methods of tackling the malaria parasite, but expressed disappointment that Ghana has not done well with the management of sanitation and maternal mortality, making Ghana lag behind achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

He however indicated that government is adopting new ways of tackling the sanitation situation in the country

Film: Ghanaian actors John Dumelo and Yvonne Nelson team up with Haitian heartthrob Jimmy Jean-Louis for upcoming new film…

Ghana meets Haiti in One Night in Vegas

Credit/By: Ameyaw Debrah Dated: Tue, 26 Mar 2013

Whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Wrong.

Ghanaian actors John Dumelo and Yvonne Nelson are teaming up with Haitian Hollywood heartthrob Jimmy Jean-Louis to bring their own kind of trouble and suspense to Sin City in the upcoming film, One Night in Vegas, which is still under production in the US.

One Night in Vegas tells the story of a couple who decide to go away for a while after a long drawn out court case involving the husband’s (Dumelo) business.

They go to Vegas and going along with them, under cover, is a US government special agent (Jean-Louis). There are infractions aplenty and for some reason what happens in Vegas unfortunately does not stay in Vegas.

21 Legends , MADE in Ghana
The "21 Legends, Made in Ghana", Exhibition and Photo Book will reveal the profound wisdom and insights of 21 of our time’s greatest Ghanaian writers, artists, philosophers, politicians, athletes, designers, activists, musicians, religious and business leaders.

I see this project as having layers of products that come from it. The act of bringing people together and sharing those stories is a product in itself. The photographs and stories that we will exhibit are a major product and will end up as a limited edition book and limited edition prints.

I believe that any art medium can inspire and create change in the world.

:: Heart of the project ::
The main focus will be on capturing the moments, when The Legends can let go and give themselves permission to be open and honest. That’s the perspective we want to capture. That’s the story we want to tell. Their Stories.

Actress Ama K Abebrese has a bag named in her honour --the ‘Ama K’ bag by Sa4a

Actress Ama K Abebrese looking fabulous with her ‘Ama K’ bag by Sa4a….

Think: actress and singer Jane Birkin’s Hermès Birkin, the late great actress and style icon, Grace Kelly’s Hermes Kelly Bag, the late great ‘Queen of Hearts’ Lady Diana’s Lady Dior bag, model and TV presenter Alexa Chung’s Mulberry Alexa bag, singer Lana Del Rey's Mulberry Del Rey bag and Pippa Middleton’s Modalu Pippa bag and you start to get an idea of this most elusive and exclusive club of uber celebrities ---with ‘It’ bags inspired and named after them!!!

Now Ghana Rising fave, Accra based British-Ghanaian actress and TV presenter Ama K has joined this yummy band of style icons as the inspiration and muse of the ‘Ama K bag’ by Sa4a…..how fabulous…

I’m going to be very honest; I have not had the pleasure of seeing this lovely bag in person, thus don’t know if its trimmings are real leather or not ---but it’s lovely and a first ---I believe, a bag has been named after a celebrity in Ghana.

This wonderful honour means that I’m now going to keep my Ghana Rising eyes on Sa4a –who I think are upping their game, well their PR game –and wish this accessories label much success.

Uber billionaire philanthropist Bills Gates is in Ghana –right now!!! I don’t how long he’s staying in Ghana, –but I’m guessing with his private jet, he can whizz in and out in a flash!!

Anyway, Bills Gates’ in Ghana to, “learn more about the amazing progress this country has made” with regards to, “what makes Ghana’s immunization approach work so well” and to, “ Rigorous data gathering, accountability & community outreach.”

I truly hope this trip will touch Bills Gates and that ---Ghana will see more of this man. And also pray that some of his philanthropic spirit will rub off on Ghana’s rich (who I’m sure are all vying to meet him as I type -mercy)….
