Paulina Opoku-Gyimah says: Jet-setters, the travel & tourism industry -especially hoteliers all know travel guru  TripAdvisor -the world’s number one travel site and the-go-to hub for all things reviews  and relevant in the world of hospitality –can make or break your business.

So powerful is TripAdvisor that most don’t travel without visiting this site –and certainly many will not book a hotel room -especially in emerging markets like Ghana –without reading the reviews on sais site. Let’s be honest, if you’re going on an uber important three day business trip to Accra, Ghana –the last thing you want disturbing you is a stinking small room full of flies –and dirty poly-cotton bed sheets…

Therefore the reviews on TripAdvisor be they about hotels, restaurants, spas or whatever –matter and the above represent the top ten best ranked hotels in Ghana –today on the TripAdvisor website.

I’m going to be brutally honest…..a couple (just a couple) of the hotels in the tripAdvisor Ghana top ten would never be normally written about on Ghana Rising blog –I just don’t find them aspirational enough…. plus I’m uber surprised by the absence of Holiday Inn Accra Airport (ranked 13^th) , with its parquet flooring and its rooftop swimming pool fabulousness – Golden Tulip Accra (ranked 25^th) and The Aknac Hotel, Accra –with is ranked 4 of 114 of Ghana’s Bed & Breakfast (???)…

Note TripAdvisor matters because the above much feted hotels have been voted by those who count -ordinary travellers –and what they say goes. Plus things are about to get more interesting --- TripAdvisor is about to launch its 2013 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence winners.  I wonder, will any of Ghana’s hotels or restaurants be amongst this much anticipated industry award and recognition?
