Dr Gus Casely-Hayford’s Lost Kingdoms of Africa on BBC Four is a must see [Tuesdays at 9pm]

I’ve just finished watching this week's ‘Lost Kingdoms of Africa’ by Dr Gus Casely-Hayford [featuring the ancient Kingdom of Ethiopia] -and he’s the best, –engaging and passionate [with none of that patronizing verve that most art historian Possess]. Part of the most influential black family in the UK, -like the rest of Casely-Hayford clan –he is at the top-of-his-game. **Don’t forget to watch Dr Gus next Tuesday –it’s about the lost Kingdom of Great Zimbabwe. Please visit the BBC website for more information. www.bbc.co.uk

Black Star: Ekow Eshun

I remember the day I spied Ekow Eshun in the prestigious, 'Debrett's People of the Year 2006' book -I was truly inspired (and decided there and then, that I will be in the 2010 edition -by God's grace 'O'). British born Eshun is multi talented. An author; journalist, broadcaster, magazine editor (Ekow edited Arena magazine -and did a short stint as editorial director of Tank magazine) and artistic director of the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. If you haven't seen this cultural pundit on BBC2's Friday night arts programme Newsnight Review, you are missing out -Ekow's academic and sardonic wit and provocative ramblings -will keep you glued. Copies of Mr Eshun's memoir, 'Black Gold of the Sun' Hamish Hamilton, 2005 -(a powerful narrative about -Ekow's return trip to Ghana, Ghanaian history, Slavery -and issues of identity and race) are available from -www.amazon.co.uk/

Ghana Rising Hearts Freema Agyeman

I love actress Freema Agyeman's sassy style. Pretty and soft or edgy and cutting edge -Freema's style, is a beautiful eclectic mix of va va voom dresses -and high street finds. This petite 28 year old star -of Doctor Who fame, is of Ghanaian and Iranian heritage -and is currently starring as Martha Jones on the BBC television series -Torchwood, a spin off -of Doctor Who. www.freemaagyeman.com/
