Ayikai Couture at Fashion Mist 2011...

Ayikai Couture’s beautifully made pieces and yummy accessories are new to Ghana Rising. Comprising an uber luxe collection, lovingly made by hand, -Ayikai Couture’s elegant, wrap dresses with feather details blew me away -and I’m predicting it wouldn’t be long before we see them on the pages of high-end glossies like Vogue and Elle et al. But Ayikai Couture's not all about killer dresses and fabulous rara like skirts -no sireee. -It also offers serious fashion-girls-about-town an array of bags, including large clutches in kente, leather and snakeskin -and medium/large totes with both leather and woven wooden handles -fabulous. They also sell fabulous bangles, necklaces and beads (shown below on my wooden hand). For more info visit: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=53502053109

The dress I want…..now

Mina Evans at Fashion Mist 2011

Some time back I stumbled across model Deborah Vanessa Owusu-Bonsu wearing the most beautiful dress but with no mention of the designer -I decided not to put it on the blog. Fast forward a few months or so and I come face-to-face with said dress and much more. The Mina Evans’ collection is an eclectic mix of bodacious men’s shirts and a yummy mix of statement pieces including Mina Evans’ two skirts in one, -mini skirts with long sheer skirts over the top (reminiscent of Lanvin, Chloe, Givenchy and Marc Jacobs' S/S 2011 long sheer skirts) and her beautifully made structural skirts with uber fab hip details. But my absolute favourites are: the dresses and skirts with tulle bow details and her must-have tops, gorgeously embellished with jewels. Fashion Mist 2011.…

On Saturday 26th March 2011, London’s Ghanaian Glitterati and friends converged at chichi Hotel Russell for one of the hottest tickets of the year, -Sheila Boateng’s Fashion Mist 2011. A wonderful opportunity to meet some of the hottest designers of Ghanaian origin, -Fashion Mist 2011 showcased designs by, aje Pomaa, Mina Evans, Ayikai Couture and Sheila Boateng‘s very own ‘N’kya (pronounced nekaya) label, -and the latest on-trend accessories by: Yaa Ataa Couture Bags by Josephine Wiafeh, Sandi Owusu’s Diva Delicious (Bags), Aya Morrisons (Swimwear) by Helena Aidoo-Morrison, GPUK Jewellery by Melissa Bediako and Ghana Rising favourite, Anita Quansah (jewellery).

With Hotel Russell’s beautiful neo-Roman marble as backdrop, a front-row made up of yours truly, uber fierce fashionistas including: Mica Whyte (I lover her newly blonde tresses), Freya of: http://www.shadders.net/, Ghana Rising favourite -Rhian Benson and FAB magazine’s editor -Sinem Bilen-Onabanjo et al and models including: the ever beautiful Vanessa Vanderpuye and Rhema Nti, and Ghana Rising favourite -Ashanti.

My first point of call was with ajePomaa Design Gallery -new to Ghana Rising’s radar…Enjoy xx

aje Pomaa at Fashion Mist

Not only is Ajepomaa Mensah of ajePomaa Design Gallery, beautiful and talented but she is also model like, -and the perfect ambassador for her exquisite label. Wearing one of her expertly cut, nipped-in-at-the-waist jackets at Fashion Mist 2011 -Ajepomaa Mensah not only demonstrated how we should wear ajePomaa Design Gallery, all laidback and chic, but had us all swooning, -I’m loosing weight so that I can have one made in a size 12, although she can make it in any size. Beautiful made and lined with soft cotton, ajePomaa Design Gallery offers a capsule collection for the fashion savvy on the make. Bold prints with silk chiffon details, feminine dresses, halter-neck tops, must-have skirts and on-trend jackets, ajePomaa Design Gallery is now officially Ghana Risings label crush. The Illuminum collection by Michael Boadi

"The Illuminum collection is for those days when you are in the mood for something exquisitely simple and stylish." Michael Boadi

You’ll know if you’re a regular reader of Ghana Rising that I believe the only thing that’s truly recession proof is Luxury. And it doesn’t get more luxurious than former uber hairstylist to the stars turned perfumer, Michael Boadi’s latest ‘Illuminum’ collection. I haven’t had the pleasure of testing this coveted perfume collection (I’ve been promised a sample -and will keep you in the loop) but if its anything like his first collection ‘Boadicea the Victorious’ -they will become cult classics. Music: ‘Stuttering’ by Loick Essien Feat. N-Dubz

I first spied Loick Essien about a year and a half ago via YouTube and thought  he was hot and most definitely of Ghanaian origin. But every time I asked someone where he was from there was silence -so I left it. Fast forward a year and there’s a real buzz about this soulful artist -so I was thrilled to see him (and Rhian Benson) on the latest cover of FAB magazine. Yes he is of Ghanaian origin -and I’m soo  pleased as I can now share his talent with you. For more information about Loick Essien visit: http://www.loickessien.com/
