There -its out of the bag….. Its official … Uber fashion icon Bethann Hardison has credited Ghana Rising fave, Daryl Rita Osekreh (http://liivemuse.com/) as the petit but mighty lady behind GFDW (Ghana Fashion & Design Week) and she’s right but I felt it only right to mention Ohemma Shadders -the fabulous Afro-Goddess behind the ‘Must Read’ Shadders website ( http://www.shadders.net/)- who has worked tirelessly beside Daryl Osekreh to make GFDW -happen.
Both Daryl Rita Osekreh and Ohemma Shadders are to be commended for their vision, tenacity and excellence -and sheer B*&%@ needed to take on Ghana’s errrrrrrrmm somewhat selective verve, deficiencies and tardiness… at times..
Its important to also congratulate them for daring to put on a real genuine fashion show -in a country that uses glamour models/Miss Ghana’s for models and music concerts for runway shows. That -they dared to stay true to a Billion dollar industry -means that it will now be much easier for others wanting to do things properly in Ghana’s burgeoning fashion industry -to go for it….
I guess they have sort of broken that jagger-jagger-hot-mess thing that’s been Ghana’s downfall -once and for all.. So to all those brands that were afraid to go to Ghana -please note that we [Ghana/Ghanaians] can -(and have) put on professional events -that are well planed, polished and professional…
I believe that next years GDFW 2013 is going to be bigger and better (and less taxing) and that designer/sponsors/BUYERS will be flocking to the shows -and who knows -maybe even American Vogue’s Anna Wintour in the audience!!! I think I better book my tickets now -so see you there… next year.. Xx
