Fabulous Blog Alert: SANKOFA …Bringing Franco-Ghanaians -together…

“The association SANKOFA has therefore been created to establish a close relationship between Ghanaians and French, and allow the French people (even the French with Ghanaian origin) to discover and know more about Ghana and its culture, and also to assist the migrant Ghanaians to well integrate and find their rightful place within the French multicultural setting while maintaining socio-economic links with their roots.

Based in Paris and Toulouse, France, the association was founded in 2007 by a group of Ghanaians and French living in France. It is registered at the District Administration (n° W313005466). The association SANKOFA is open to all those who love Ghana, vehemently wish to contribute to its socio-cultural development, and desire to follow current economic and political trends in Ghana.” www.sankofa.asso.fr

I’ve been fortunate to have visited France, namely Paris a couple of times and have passed through it numerous times on my way to Holland and Belgium on that coach (come on, I know you all know about that very Ghanaian coach trip from London Victoria to various European destinations, namely Amsterdam, Paris, Lyon, Rotterdam, Ghent and Brussels -laughter!! Jojo and I go several times a year)!!! Cheap but not always comfortable, good for people watching (i.e where is he getting off, where is Maame Bontoss going with her Ghana-must-prosper bag, what are the sniffer dogs doing here, surly she wasn’t carrying cocaine etc, etc) but mostly -that coach trip has enabled me to think (the journey is long enough) before I hit Ypres and Kortrijk in Belgium or Amsterdam for the Zongo of Holland -Bijlmer (especially Amsterdam Spot). I honestly can’t think of a Ghanaian who doesn’t have family in Amsterdam’s Bijlmer -can you?

Anyway, the growing Ghanaian community in France has a fabulous website that enables them to get together and stay in touch with one another, -I wonderful idea, me thinks.. For more information about this uber informative website visit: http://www.sankofa.asso.fr/aboutus.html
