Ghana's first 'Fashion Awards' show …how did it go?

“The night started with the acknowledgement of the judges, Joyce Ababio and Kofi Ansah. Probably two of the most influential Ghanaian designers to date, their presence and support of the event was monumental. Following their “nod” the event officially launched with a fashion show that highlighted. With the designs of some brand names that one day will surely want to be among the nominees the fashion show portion of the night was a visual reminder of all the creative talent in the room. The categories and big winners of the night for included; Accessories designer of the year taken by Inka Accessories, model of the year-won by Grace Sarfo, Best casual wear designer (T-shirt category)-won by Monarki, Emerging Designer of the year won by-Duaba Serwaa and Designer of the year, won by Christie Brown. All in all it was a great event, and one that I look forward to attending every year.” Noelle Bonner

Paulina Opoku-Gyimah says: If it wasn’t for the ever fabulous Noelle Bonner (above -in the middle wearing Christie Brown and Louboutins, flanked by fashion designers Kofi Ansah and Joyce Ababio) I wouldn’t have a clue what transpired at Ghana’s first Fashion Award Show! …I had a good nose at Noelle’s photos -and the event was a success (fabulous) even though I’m somewhat disappointed with the decorations, its beyond garish and very amateurish -what I can only describe as ‘that typical Ghana-wedding sans balloons’ look. Also Noelle notes there were, “many of 2011′s beauty pageant winners, including the woman representing Ghana at the Miss Universe pageant” -and this leaves me cold as I’m beyond frustrated with the Ghanaian fashion industry…-can’t they decipher the difference between fashion models and pageant queens… -it drives me crazy -I personally wouldn’t have beauty queens or whatever at these events -it renders it void -in fashion terms…. Anyway Noelle had a blast and can’t wait for the next one! -You can read all about the Award show -and the amount of fun Ms Bonner is having in Ghana via: http://www.fashionfixxation.com/
