Tourism/Design & Architecture: Princes Town Resort

"The Princes Town Luxury Beach Resort and Residences will bring much needed international standard accommodation to the Greater Takoradi area in the Western Region of Ghana, the heart of Ghana's timber, mining and oil industries. Soroma Capital is responsible for the project finance for this $200m project, which is a partnership development with the local community. The site enjoys over a kilometre of white sand beach in a bay setting with historical and wildlife attractions nearby. The Princes Town Resort is aimed at the business traveller, conference guests and the discerning domestic, regional and international tourist.

A unique and iconic hotel designed by internationally acclaimed architect David Adjaye forms the heart of the Princes Town resort and luxury residences. Set in 600 acres of beach-fronted land with a natural lagoon and palm groves, the Princes Town resort defines the Gold Coast Riviera, the most stunning coastline in the Western Region of Ghana…..

A limited release of luxury residences facing the lagoon and around the golf course is available to you. Choose between a bare land purchase for a self-built home according to the resort's strict architectural guidelines or commission a designer home to be delivered turnkey from the developer, the choice is yours….

The name Princes Town is derived from the 16th century Prince Frederik of Brandenburg, Prussia, who financed the construction of the nearby Fort Groot Frederiksburg. Princes Town was initially called "Kpokezoe" and today is the seat of the Dodobo royal family. In keeping with this rich regal history, the Princes Town resort offers luxury accommodation fit for kings and queens…

The first records of golf being played in its birthplace of Scotland appeared around the same time the Brandenburger expedition first set foot in what is now Princes Town. The resort will boast West Africa's only world class golf course complementing the hotel's beach club, equestrian facilities, spa, children's adventure playground and other leisure facilities." Paulina Opoku-Gyimah says: My goodness it’s all go in Ghana –no? There was a time when all the buzz of development was centred in and around Accra, but not anymore. Ghana’s sexy Oil City, the uber hip Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana is fast becoming Ghana’s next big city… I haven’t seen a lot of images with regards to Princess Town Resort but the little I’ve seen looks impressive. Plus, and it’s a big plus, its designed by world renowned architect and all round Ghana Rising fave, David Adjaye –can you believe it? And because Mr Adjaye is on board –you just know the design industry and the world’s media’s gaze will be on Princess Town Resort (just as it should) and on Ghana.

I’m very excited about Princes Town Resort, in fact I can’t wait for its completion and I have real respect for the people behind it –for doing things properly and with truly talented people a second for Ghana –the first I believe is the Slavery Museum –no?

Anyway I’m predicating that Princes Town Resort is the next big postcode in Ghana… For more info about Princes Town Resort visit:
