Paulina says: I’m at the office but watching live streaming of fashion shows from London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 collections via Style.com (http://www.style.com) for their daily video recaps!!!
Its important to point out that uber bi-annual LFW is sponsored by high-end brands including: Vodafone (principle sponsor), Mercedes-Benz, American Express, Tony & Guy, LG, UK Trade & Investment, DHL, The Mayor of London (can you imagine the Mayor of Accra sponsoring GFDW?, nor can I but it would be great), Topshop, The mayfair Hotel and many more --and started on the 13th and finishes tomorrow 17th September 2013…
I’m also getting a much closer look at various pieces by fave designers via London Fashion Week’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/londonfashionweek) and it got me thinking…… who will be gracing the front row of this year’s fast approaching Ghana Fashion & Design Week (GFDW)???
As you can see from the above photos of various celebs --London Fashion Week is the bomb, one of the most prestigious annual events in the London ‘calendar’ and attracts oodles of celebrities, press, buyers and fans from around the world --helping to put London on the map (not that hip London needs any help –you hear)…
I am hoping that in my lifetime that the Accra metropolis will come close to achieving some of the success of London with regards to LFW. Of course it will take work, time and education for all those who can help to bring this to fruition to understand just how important fashion is to Ghana…
Also, American Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour who jetted in from NYC for the shows threw a star studded ‘Vogue London Fashion Week’ dinner party –adding her sparkle to an already fabulous week –and it got me thinking again…….. whom amongst all the first this and thats in Ghana has the gravitas and the elegance to throw a Ghana Fashion & Design Week party to bring together the great and the good of Ghana’s fashion/beauty/media/film/textile mills/ food/hotel etc industry –to help promote the best of Ghana?? The thing is …..Ghana’s movers and shakers have yet to cotton onto just how much fashion and the arts need support, funding and patronising. They are far too quick to celebrate and buy goods from abroad and don’t seem to respect the talents of anything happening back home… And then theres the added jagger-jagger-ness of them only helping those they know regardless of talent or merit….it’s a shame really.
I truly hope to see more Ghana based celebrities, industry people, boutique owners, hoteliers, socialites, and Accra’s ladies-who-lunch at this year’s GFDW which is taking place at uber prestigious Mövenpick Hotel Accra from the 11th to 13th October 2013 –alongside the growing number of international press and Ghanaian media outlets covering this go-to event with VIM…..

  1. Your thoughts about this are exactly like mine Paulina! GDFW has so much potential but like you said it needs the right people behind it to make it that much more fabulous!!
